Palmetto Voices Featuring Lola Jordan

Companion Data Services President Serves as Inspiration on ‘Palmetto Voices’ Video Series

Columbia, SC – South Carolina ETV has selected Lola Jordan as a “Palmetto Voice” to inspire the public and students statewide. Jordan is head of a South Carolina-based company that provides information technology (IT) and business process services to the federal government and private sector.

The statewide educational television and radio network included Jordan in its “Palmetto Voices” series of videos made available on YouTube  for classrooms and the public. Designed for middle school and high school students, the series provides career education and particularly encourages young women to seek leadership positions.

As the president of Companion Data Services, Jordan represents the IT industry and is quoted throughout the 10-minute video, which was released recently.

Among her comments was this advice to students: “There is a lot more in the IT field than working for Google, Amazon and Microsoft. About 60 percent of IT jobs are in non IT companies. … You can make a difference in the world of IT, not just by doing it for a big name but also working for nonprofits that need that knowledge of IT. Everything we do in this world now has a hook in IT. We really need for our talented students, boys and girls, to look at IT and know that they can make a difference.”

A graduate of California State University Stanislaus with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and a minor in chemistry, Jordan has 28 years in the IT industry, all of it associated with Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance. She joined Companion Data Services in 2010 as chief operating officer and was promoted to president in 2012.

She serves on the board and is active with IT-oLogy (www.it-ology.org), a nonprofit collaboration of companies, academic institutions and organizations dedicated to growing the IT talent pipeline, fostering economic development and advancing the IT profession. She also is a mentor to students at Columbia College, a traditionally female institution of higher education.
